Woman sucked into broken window in American plane, dies
In April 2018 Southwest Airlines flight 1380, with 144 passengers and 5 crew, left New York’s LaGuardia Airport for Dallas, Texas. The Boeing 737-700 was about 20 minutes into its journey when an engine failure occurred and diverted to Philadelphia International Airport to make an emergency landing. An engine explosion sent debris into a window and shattered it, pulling the woman sitting next to it out of the plane as far as her waist and her blood splattering other windows as the plane depressurized and descended thousands of ft per minute. Other passengers managed to pull Jennifer Riordan back inside, and a nurse performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on her, but she died from blunt force trauma to the head, neck, and torso. Seven other passengers were treated for minor injuries.
